Welcome to the ‘Female Football’ page at Otumoetai Football Club. On this page, we will celebrate all that is female football at Otumoetai Football Club.
2016 saw the introduction of the u8 Girls Only winter leagues in the Bay of Plenty region. In 2017 this was expanded to include u11 and u13 leagues throughout the WAIBOP region. The 2018 season will see the age groups change to u8, u10, u12 and u14. These changes will continue to happen each year as female football grows until it is at the stage of having single age groups instead of the dual banding.
2017 Otumoetai saw the u8 White Tigers, u11 Hawks, Osprey and Eagles and the u13 Falcons playing in the Saturday league from May to September.
2017 also saw the introduction of the u16 WAIBOP Girls Federation league which was played on a Sunday. The Harriers, was made up of a mixture of Otumoetai College, Tauranga Girls College and Bethlehem College players, are all working together and having a fantastic first season representing Otumoetai Football Club in this league. They finished second in the league with 6 of them being selected for the WaiBOP National Age tournament in Wellington. 2018 sees the introduction of the u14 Girls Federation league, which will also be played on a Sunday. In 2018 both the u16 and u14 Otumoetai Girls Youth Federation teams will be under the OFCA player development plan, which is overseen by Cliff Harris. For more information on what OFCA offers players, please click here.
As well as these new girl’s leagues, we also have our college teams, the 1st and 2nd Xl and College Black and Green teams. In 2017 the 1st Xl represented Otumoetai College at the New Zealand Secondary School Premier Tournament in Taupo and placed 10th.
For our women, we have our 1st Women's team and our Social Women's team. 2017 saw our 1st Women’s team finish 2nd equal (on points) in the Bay One league. This earned them a place in the WaiBOP Federation league and the opportunity to play for a place Northern Regional Federation League. 2018 will see the team continue with their development and growth and their bid to represent the Bay in the NRFL in the future.
